Operation: Tango – A Love Story

Think that your significant other is ready for going to that next stage in your relationship? Want to test the waters before you pop the big question? You know, stuff like, “Want to play one more mission?” Video games can be a great way to bring people together. So here’s our plan for this Valentine’s Day: Provide (im)practical advice from people that have been there…and then played Operation: Tango together. Your results – and relationship status – may vary.

TIP 1: LISTEN.

This is probably the biggest, most obvious, tip when it comes to any relationship: LISTEN UP. This holds true whether you’re looking to squad up or hook up with someone. If you’re not paying attention to those around you, you’re gonna be playing solo.

Amazing co-op game! Your partner will never stop shouting at you, but hey, who keeps count of that anyway! At least I got all the gold medals. Therapy is later!

TIP 2: EFFECTIVELY COMMUNICATE

While it might seem obvious – and literally go hand-in-hand with the first tip – it’s no less true. In fact, here’s a good general rule for life: You don’t know any mind readers, so you need to clearly share what’s in your head…and what you’re seeing, in game.

me and my husband really loved this game, although it did cause some heated discussions when it came to him trying to describe shapes and symbols lol. I really hope game developers start bringing more co-op games out like this. I thought it was really great that the second person didn’t have to pay and could play for free too.

fun times getting screamed at by my gf

Continuously had to listen to my boyfriend say “I’m In” anytime he did something.

TIP 3: SOMETIMES YOU NEED A LITTLE PATIENCE

Take a deep breath. Nobody gets it right the first time – so slow your roll! Whether you’re trying to hack a system or hack someone’s heart (not in a gross way, you sicko) you need to go easy. Give your partner the benefit of the doubt and when you’re in a high-pressure situation, this saying goes a long way: Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. Translation: Take your time to do it right, not rushing and you can calmly find your way through any situation.

How to break up with your partner in 3 steps :

1- Buy the game

2- Ask to play with your partner

3- $hips got bad and your partner is now your EX.

TIP 4: IF YOU’RE GOING TO BURN YOUR PARTNER – MAKE SURE YOU’RE READY FOR THE CONSEQUENCES

If you’ve reported your Hacker partner as a virus in the first mission, you know what we’re talking about. And, yes, Agent, we are judging you.

A bit short but very fun. 10/10 would delete my friend as a virus again.

SOME OTHER GAMES TO TRY:

We love bringing people together to try something different through co-op play. So here are a couple of our favourites from other devs that you should check out (and WHY you should check them out) with someone you love.

It Takes Two: The developers at Hazelight have built all their games around this concept of co-op play, working together as a team. It Takes Two, though, also happens to be a heartwarming, funny story about how relationships can change. Also, it’s worth mentioning that their next co-op game Split Fiction actually comes out next month! Be sure to put that on your radar.

Monaco: What’s Yours is Mine: This classic video game is all about pulling off the perfect caper. The game has everyone taking on a different role to pull off the job. Fancy yourself an escape artist? A con artist? A safe cracker? A hacker? A thug? You have a lot of roles to fill in this amazing co-op game with up to four players.

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes: Your relationship is a ticking timebomb. Literally. One player is in charge of manipulating a bomb while the other player has access to the “manual” to disarm it. You have to tell each other what you see…and how you defuse it before, well, you know. If nobody is screaming, you’re doing it wrong.

Did we miss a great co-op game that you’ve played recently? What else are you playing that scratches that co-op itch?

If you aren’t already on our Clever Plays Discord, please join us! We love talking about all this (and more) there. Chat with the team – and other fans, just like you.
